3 men sought over restaurant robbery

13 June 2012

PETALING JAYA: Police are looking for three men who robbed a popular South Indian restaurant in Jalan Dato Mahmud, here, last week.

The three robbers, armed with parang, barged into the restaurant at about 10.45pm and held up the workers and several customers who were terrified with the brazen attack.

The robbers first emptied the cash register of about RM3,000 before they robbed the six patrons, taking away wrist watches, mobile phones and about RM600 in cash.

Petaling Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Arjunaidi Mohamed confirmed the incident, adding that police had not made any arrest so far.

“We have recorded statements from the patrons and the management of the restaurant. We are working on several leads,” Arjunaidi said.

"None of the victims were injured and the robbery was over within five minutes.”

Arjunaidi urged anyone with information on the case to contact PJ police immediately.

It was learnt that after the robbers left, the patrons were offered drinks on the house.

A regular at the restaurant, a 25-year-old woman, said she will never stop coming to the eatery despite the daring robbery.

“I heard about the incident but this has not stopped me from patronising this outlet,” she said when met at the restaurant yesterday.

“It was just their unlucky day. It could have happened at any restaurant.”
